The Bayelsa State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing agriculture and youth empowerment. His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri,  welcomed 180 youths who recently concluded a three-month intensive training for the Enterprise for Youth in Agriculture (EYiA) in Awowo, Ogun State.

The program, sponsored by MasterCard and facilitated by the Ministry of Youth Development, aimed to equip young Bayelsans with modern farming techniques.

Addressing the trainees at the Government House in Yenagoa, His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri commended them for their dedication and excellent representation of the state during their training in Awowo, Ogun State, where they specialized in soilless farming.

To ensure the practical application of their newly acquired skills, the Governor has directed the formation of a special committee comprising the Commissioners for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Youth Development, and Finance. This committee will strategize on how best to integrate the trained youths into the state’s agricultural framework, strengthening local food production and reducing reliance on external food sources.

Governor Diri also expressed gratitude to MasterCard for sponsoring the training and to the Honorable Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Alfred Kemepado, for initiating the program. He urged the beneficiaries to maximize their skills, create wealth, and contribute to the state’s economic development.

The beneficiaries expressed their appreciation for the opportunity provided by the state government. As a gesture of gratitude, they presented an impressive painting of the Governor recognizing his leadership and commitment to youth development.

The visit marked a significant milestone in Bayelsa’s push for agricultural transformation, reinforcing the government’s resolve to create sustainable livelihoods for its youth through modern farming techniques.
