Yenagoa, Bayelsa State

A momentous occasion unfolded in Bayelsa State today as the graduation ceremony for the Enterprise for Youth in Agriculture project trainees took place. The ceremony marked the successful completion of the three-month program aimed at empowering youth in the field of agriculture. Sponsored by the Mastercard Foundation in collaboration with Soilless Farm Lab and supported by the Bayelsa State Ministry of Youth Development, the event celebrated the dedication, skills, and achievements of young trainees who are now well-equipped to contribute to the agricultural sector in Bayelsa State.

The ceremony, held at the Ministry of Youth Development Conference Hall, was attended by key stakeholders, trainees, Bayelsa State Ministry of Youth Development officials, and various government representatives.

In his opening remarks, the Honourable Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Alfred Kemepado, congratulated the graduates and commended the collaboration between the public and private sectors in addressing youth unemployment through innovative agricultural programs.

“The success of the Enterprise for Youth in Agriculture program not only signifies the empowerment of our youth but also strengthens the agricultural sector, which is vital to our state’s economy,” said the Commissioner. “This is a model of how effective partnerships can drive real change and create opportunities for our young people.”

The Enterprise for Youth in Agriculture project is designed to provide young people with hands-on training and access to cutting-edge agricultural practices, with a special focus on soilless farming technologies. The trainees received comprehensive instruction in sustainable agriculture, entrepreneurship, and modern farming techniques, including hydroponics, aeroponics, and other innovative practices aimed at increasing agricultural productivity while minimizing environmental impact.

The graduation ceremony also featured speeches from some of the graduates, who shared their experiences and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the program. One of the graduates, Abah Winner, thanked the sponsors for providing a platform to learn not only about agricultural practices but also the business side of farming.

“I feel more confident about starting my own farming business and contributing to the development of my community,” said Abah.

As part of the graduation celebrations, cash gifts and certificates were awarded to the trainees, marking the completion of their training and the beginning of their journey as young entrepreneurs in agriculture.

The event concluded with a call to action from the Ministry of Youth Development, emphasizing the importance of continued support for programs that foster innovation and sustainable agricultural practices—both of which are crucial to the future of Bayelsa State and the country.

With the successful conclusion of this training program, the Enterprise for Youth in Agriculture project is expected to have a lasting impact on the youth of Bayelsa State, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to thrive in the agricultural industry while contributing to the state’s economic development.
