The Bayelsa State Youth Policy Consultative Meeting continued on Friday, December 6, 2024, at the Yenagoa Local Government Council. It gathered youth leaders and government officials to deliberate on key issues affecting the youth and shape a comprehensive youth policy for the state.

In his opening remarks, the Executive Chairman of Yenagoa Local Government Area, Hon. Bulodisiye Ndiwari, lauded the initiative as timely and crucial for youth development. He highlighted the vibrancy and potential of Bayelsa’s youth, urging them to rise to the occasion and make the most of opportunities provided by the government, including establishing the Ministry of Youth Development. He called on youth leaders to lead by example, address societal challenges, and foster sustainable growth across their communities.

Hon. Alfred Kemepado, Commissioner for Youth Development, outlined the government’s vision for youth inclusion and practical solutions to youth challenges. He emphasized moving beyond theoretical policies by equipping young people with the skills needed to thrive in the evolving economy. Stressing the importance of grassroots engagement, he noted, “We are here to listen to you, identify your challenges, and develop solutions together. This policy will not be written in isolation.”

Comrade Deacon Robert Igali, Director General of the Center for Youth Development, commended participants for their active engagement and urged them to prioritize peace and community responsibility. Comrade Ile Onoze, Director of the Center for Youth Development Yenagoa LGA, expressed gratitude for the Commissioner’s leadership, while Comrade Wader Benjamin, Federated Youth President, described the Commissioner as a “distinctive leader and an adopted son of Yenagoa.”

The meeting featured breakout sessions, where participants discussed pressing issues and proposed actionable solutions. The Commissioner assured attendees that their input, alongside contributions from other stakeholders, would guide the development of a youth policy that truly represents the aspirations and needs of Bayelsa’s youth.

The session concluded with a renewed commitment to youth development and a pledge to maintain continuous dialogue for sustainable progress.
