The Bayelsa State Ministry of Youth Development, under the leadership of the Honorable Commissioner, Mr. Alfred Kemepado, has reaffirmed its commitment to empowering young people through a strategic partnership with the Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta (PIND) Foundation).
In a high-level meeting held on Tuesday, 11th February 2025, at the Ministry’s office in Yenagoa, the Commissioner and PIND Foundation’s Advocacy Manager, Dr. Chuks Ofulue, explored key areas of collaboration to enhance youth development efforts in the state.
Mr. Kemepado emphasized the Ministry’s shift from traditional youth mobilization to a more structured, policy-driven approach, particularly through democratising the Bayelsa State Youth Policy. He highlighted the Ministry’s strong reliance on partnerships, noting that 80% of its programs are collaboration-driven. He further stressed the importance of data-driven interventions, economic empowerment through youth-led industries, and alternative models for engagement that go beyond political structures.
Speaking on behalf of PIND Foundation, Dr. Chuks Ofulue reaffirmed the importance of a structured youth policy as a framework for effective interventions. He emphasized that economic development and peace are interconnected, and PIND remains committed to supporting initiatives that align with both objectives.
Key areas of collaboration identified include:
- Finalizing the Youth Policy with inputs from both parties.
- Engaging key stakeholders for policy validation and implementation.
- Extending invitations to key partners,
- Strengthening collaboration beyond policy development to ensure sustainable impact.
Mr. Patrick Ekpe, Youth Empowerment Pathways Manager, commended the Ministry for its proactive steps in drafting a functional and actionable youth policy that will directly impact young people across the state.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to finalizing the youth policy, expanding partnerships, and implementing initiatives that will drive long-term development for Bayelsa’s youth.
