The Ministry of Youth Development, in its ongoing efforts to align policies with the realities of Bayelsa’s youth, convened a consultative meeting in Oporoma, Southern Ijaw. Youth leaders, representatives, and government officials engaged in discussions addressing the region’s unique challenges.

Commissioner Alfred Kemepado highlighted the Ministry’s core mandate, reaffirming Governor Douye Diri’s commitment to impactful, youth-driven policies. He noted that the draft policy would only be finalised after incorporating youth input, emphasizing the importance of collaboration for relevance and effectiveness.

“We will continue working together to create a policy that addresses the unique needs of every community,” Kemepado stated, urging active participation.

Youth leaders and community representatives praised the initiative. Comrade Jeremiah, Silga’s youth president, commended the Ministry’s proactive approach, while Comrade Foster Omatade described the event as unprecedented and a step toward the Bayelsa of their dreams. Sokari, the Director for Women in Southern Ijaw, expressed gratitude for the government’s willingness to listen and pledged her support for youth development.

Breakout sessions allowed participants to discuss specific challenges and opportunities, resulting in actionable insights that the Ministry assured would shape the final policy to promote peace, unity, and sustainable development across Bayelsa communities.
